What Crew is
A crew member is an agent with a charter you approved, its own memory and an inbox. Every use starts a fresh session that already knows the job.

Crew gives a recurring job to an agent that keeps it: deploys, release notes, CI triage, disk cleanup. A crew member has a charter you approved, its own memory, short handoff notes from its earlier sessions and an inbox where your chats, other crew members and automations leave requests. Each time you use it, Studio starts a fresh session and hands it all of that, so you never explain the job twice and never have to find the old chat that knew it.
What a crew member holds
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Charter | The job, its steps and its rules, in Markdown. It changes only when you approve a change. |
| Project | The one project it works in, or none for a job that is not tied to one. |
| Agent and model | Any agent you connected, with its model, reasoning and access, like a chat. |
| Memory | Notes the member keeps for itself across sessions. They belong to the member, not to one chat. |
| Handoff notes | A short note each session leaves for the next one. |
| Inbox | Requests and notices from your chats, other members and automations. |
You can have up to 50 crew members that are not archived.
Where it runs
A crew member runs on its host. A member bound to a project runs on the computer that holds the project, so a member of a project on your server keeps working while your Mac sleeps. A member without a project runs on the computer you choose, this Mac by default. See Run Studio on your own server.
Crew sessions are ordinary chats on that host, but they never appear in your project chat lists, the archive or search. You reach them only through Crew.
The crew in the rail
Your crew sits in the left rail under the page buttons, one round avatar per member, with the members that need you first. The avatar tells you its state at a glance:
| Mark | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Blue ring | A session is running. |
| Amber ring | A session waits for you: a question, an approval or "Your turn". |
| Grey count | Requests are gathering into a batch. |
| Blue count | A batch of requests waits for your review. |
| Dimmed, with a crossed-out signal | The member's host is offline. |
Rest the pointer on an avatar to see the member's state, job, project and device, model, current session and last handoff note. Right-click the avatars for New crew member, Manage crew and Show archived.
The bubble and the member space
Click an avatar to open the member in a small window beside it, over whatever you were doing. It shows the current session, or the batch of requests waiting for you, with a composer under it. The header's switcher lists the member's sessions, New session and the inbox. Close it with ×; the session keeps running.
Expand turns the sidebar into the member's space: cards for its Sessions, Automations, Inbox, Charter and Memory, and a Settings row, with the chosen page or session at full width. Collapse goes back to the small window, and any other place you open in Studio closes Crew without stopping the session.
Manage crew lists every member in one table, with its project, device and what it does now; archived members fold under Archived, each with Restore.
