Kelrova vs. GitHub Advanced Security: where each fits.
Both find vulnerabilities in your code. GitHub sells Advanced Security as GitHub Code Security and GitHub Secret Protection, built into GitHub; Kelrova runs AI security scans of repositories on GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket.
Last reviewed
The short answer
Kelrova and GitHub Advanced Security both find vulnerabilities in first-party code; the difference is how they look and where they work. GitHub Code Security runs CodeQL queries on a database built from your code and shows alerts on pull requests inside GitHub, and GitHub Secret Protection adds secret scanning and push protection. Kelrova runs AI security scans in its own cloud: AI models read the whole repository on GitHub, GitLab.com or Bitbucket Cloud, report each finding with its evidence, and open a draft fix pull request when a member asks.
Side by side: what each one does.
Kelrova's column comes from its own documentation, GitHub's from GitHub's public documentation.
| Topic | KelrovaAI security scans in Kelrova's cloud | GitHub Advanced SecurityNow sold as GitHub Code Security and GitHub Secret Protection |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | ||
| What it is | AI security scans of whole repositories, run in Kelrova's cloud, not on your machine or CI runner. | GitHub Code Security: code scanning with CodeQL, Copilot Autofix, dependency review and premium Dependabot features. GitHub Secret Protection: secret scanning and push protection. Bought with GitHub Team or Enterprise. |
| How it finds issues | ||
| How it finds issues | AI models read the repository at the level you pick, from the files changed since the last scan to every entry point, application and config file. Each finding comes with its evidence and fix guidance. | CodeQL builds a database that represents your code and runs queries on it; results appear as code scanning alerts. The queries are open source, and other tools can upload SARIF results. |
| Secrets | ||
| Secrets | Secrets in code are reported as findings. | Secret scanning finds leaked credentials in Git history on all branches, with push protection. It is available on public repositories; private and internal ones need GitHub Secret Protection. |
| Code hosts | ||
| Code hosts | GitHub, GitLab.com and Bitbucket Cloud. Self-managed GitLab and Bitbucket Data Center are not supported. | GitHub repositories. Code scanning on private repositories needs a GitHub Code Security license. The CodeQL CLI license allows automated analysis of open source code hosted on GitHub.com, or of other code under a GitHub Advanced Security license. |
| Setup | ||
| Setup | Link a repository in the Kelrova portal. Scans run in Kelrova's cloud, by hand or on a schedule, with no CI change. | Default setup, where GitHub picks languages, queries and triggers and runs on GitHub Actions minutes; advanced setup with a workflow file; or the CodeQL CLI in another CI system, with results uploaded to GitHub. |
| Pull requests | ||
| Pull requests | No checks on your team's pull requests. Merge gates can review Kelrova's own fix pull requests before you merge them. | Alerts appear as checks and annotations on pull requests. Branch protection can make the code scanning check required before a merge. |
| Fixes | ||
| Fixes | Go Fix opens a draft pull request on GitHub or Bitbucket, or a draft merge request on GitLab, when a member asks. A re-check confirms the fix once it is merged. | Copilot Autofix suggests fixes for CodeQL alerts on the pull request or alert page, with no Copilot subscription needed. With agentic autofix (generally available October 15, 2026, Enterprise Cloud), Copilot drafts a fix, reruns CodeQL and opens a draft pull request. |
| AI coding agents | ||
| AI coding agents | A hosted MCP server lets AI coding agents list and read findings, report what they fixed and request a re-check. It never starts scans. | The GitHub MCP server has a code security toolset that lists and reads code scanning alerts. |
Information from GitHub's documentation, checked October 21, 2026:
Where GitHub is stronger
GitHub's tools live where the code already is, from pull request checks to push protection. If these matter most, GitHub is the better fit.
Built into GitHub
Alerts on pull requests, branch protection that can block a merge, a security overview, and security campaigns for working down existing alerts.
Open, extensible queries
CodeQL queries are open source and can be extended with query packs, and other tools can upload SARIF results. Kelrova has no custom rule language.
Push protection
Secret Protection blocks a push before a secret lands. Kelrova scans the repository after the code is pushed.
Dependency tooling
Dependency graph, dependency review, and Dependabot alerts and updates. Kelrova is not a dependency scanner.
Agentic autofix
On Enterprise Cloud, Copilot reruns CodeQL on its fix before opening a draft pull request, for up to 25 alerts at a time.
When to choose which
They can be used together: GitHub for checks on every pull request, Kelrova for periodic whole-repository scans.
Choose GitHub when
- Your code is on GitHub and you already pay for Team or Enterprise.
- You want alerts and required checks on every pull request.
- You want push protection to stop secrets before they land.
- You want dependency review and Dependabot in the same place.
Choose Kelrova when
- You want a cloud scan that reads the whole repository like a reviewer.
- You want each finding reported with its evidence.
- Your repositories are also on GitLab.com or Bitbucket Cloud.
- You want Adversary scans that record every step of an attack path.

Is Kelrova an alternative to GitHub Advanced Security?
For finding vulnerabilities in code, yes, and for repositories on GitLab.com and Bitbucket Cloud as well: Kelrova's AI security scans read the whole repository and report each finding with its evidence. It does not replace secret push protection, dependency review or Dependabot.
Is Kelrova an alternative to CodeQL?
Kelrova uses AI models that read the code, where CodeQL runs queries on a database built from it. Both report vulnerabilities in first-party code; they work differently and can complement each other.
Does Kelrova have something like Copilot Autofix?
Kelrova's Go Fix opens a draft pull request with the fix when a member asks, on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, and merge gates can review it before you merge. Copilot Autofix suggests fixes for CodeQL alerts, and GitHub's agentic autofix, generally available since October 15, 2026 on Enterprise Cloud, opens a draft pull request for them.
Do I need GitHub to use Kelrova?
No. Kelrova scans repositories on GitHub, GitLab.com and Bitbucket Cloud.
