What a scan uses

How a scan draws on your plan's usage: the estimate before you start, what shapes it, what happens when a scan stops early, and what blocks a start.

Updated View as markdown

A scan draws on your plan's included usage. The New scan dialog shows an estimate for it before you start, so you can compare levels and tiers first.

The estimate

On the Models step, each tier card carries an estimate written as a share of your plan, such as "~6.5% of your plan". While it loads, the card says "Estimating…". When none can be made, it says "Estimate unavailable".

If the tier you picked would use more than your remaining plan usage, the dialog tells you: "Best exceeds your remaining plan usage", with your tier's name in place of Best.

A line under the cards says how much of the project the level reaches: "Covers N% of this project's files". If the level is predicted to leave part of the project out, or to run past its time limit, the line becomes a warning. It names a level that does better when there is one.

What shapes it

  • The level. Deeper levels take longer and use more. See Scan levels.
  • The model tier. Higher tiers use more of your plan. See Model tiers.
  • The size of the project. Excluded paths on a code source leave folders out.

Your plan sets how much usage is included each month. Plan usage shows as a percentage and a renewal date. Balance and on-demand spending show in dollars. Unused allowance does not roll over. See Plans and the trial and Billing, balance and invoices.

Other work that uses plan usage

  • Re-verify. The dialog warns "Increases token and time cost." See Re-verify earlier findings.
  • Re-checks from your own agent. They count against scan usage. MCP calls are not billed.
  • Schedules. The dialog shows your last five scans' average and a monthly estimate.

When a scan stops early

A scan that ends early, whether partial, failed after starting or cancelled, still uses what it consumed. A scan with no accepted result, or with no usage, is not charged. See Complete, partial and cancelled runs.

What blocks a start

  • Trial ended. "Your trial has ended. Choose a plan." New scans and scheduled runs cannot start.
  • Payment past due. New scans and scheduled runs are refused.
  • Balance too low. The dialog says "Scan couldn't be started" and links to adding balance.
  • Level or tier not in your plan. The row shows a lock, such as "Unlocks with Pro".
  • Project too large. The source limit is 1 GiB after exclusions. See Limits.

With an ended trial or a past-due payment, scans already running finish. Findings and settings stay readable.
